A big thanks to all of you who were able to attend our most recent soirée, Y They Buy, the first-ever event of its kind. From the lineup outside Toronto’s midtown hotspot Six Degrees, to the team of industry experts leading the conversation, the evening, which drew a whopping 144 attendees, was a success.

Guests were treated to a group of executives, media mavens, entrepreneurs and industry experts led by anthropologist and U of T Professor Victor Borac. Exploring the reality of generation Y’s purchasing habits as they relate to social life, work trends, the importance of family and the more recent influence of the environment and related causes, the panel included John Muscat, owner and head of sales and marketing for Line; Jennifer Wells, Owner and Head of Ladies Design and Product Development for Line; Sarah Casselman, Fashion Market Editor for Fashion Magazine; Chris Lee of Beyond Marketing; Anthony Lammarino of Due West and Next Door Clothing; and Shannon Willard, National Sales Manager for Roxy.

Though it was quite possibly the chilliest night of the season, the city’s media had a strong presence, ranging from The Globe’s Feature Writer Deirdre Kelly to Kathy Ullyott, Editor-in-Chief of Homemakers. Fortunately, the payoff was well worth braving the cold as everyone took home swag courtesy of Lundström, Wrigley’s, Town Shoes, Genuine Health, Spynga, Bourjois Paris and Smashbox Cosmetics. And what would an FGI event be without doorprizes? Keeping the trend alive, a handful of lucky attendees left with treats from Foxy Originals, Umbra, Cake Beauty, Town Shoes, Bourjois Paris and Jabberdust. A special thanks to The Perfect Brush for their doorprize contribution in addition to a set of professional brushes for each of our panelists.

Finally, we were thrilled to host Trish Durisotti, Brand Manager for Dress for Success, who introduced the program to guests as a way to kick off the company’s recent partnership with FGI. Dress for success, which promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing them with professional attire, will now have an ongoing presence at all events. On behalf of all of us at FGI, we welcome you to the group and look forward to an ongoing relationship.
